Remembrance Sunday Parade
November 14th 2010
With their usual mix of cheerfulness and enthusiasm the Beavers proudly took their place in the Remembrance Sunday Parade.
Marching along in the middle of the parade with respect for the occaision, up to St.Stythians church for the service.
The parade was lead by the Stithians Band and the Royal British Legion.
The Parish Council, Womens Institute, Scouts, Cubs, Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows were also represented.
Our local PCSO was in attendance to deal with any traffic problems.
Once again the people of Stithians pulled together to pay their respects to those who fought for this country.
Stithians Dam
June 16th 2010
The Beavers visited Stithians Dam and Stithians Lake on a warm sunny evening in June. A pleasant change from meetings in the hall.
After gathering in the car park by the dam, the Beavers were given strict instructions on how to keep their parents under control.
It was good to see so many parents supporting their children and helping to keep the Beavers safe during the trip.
After crossing the dam, we followed the footpath around the lake, stopping now and then to investigate animal trails, insects, birds and plants found en-route.
We turned back, after checking we still had the same number we started out with, when time said we were over half-way through the meeting.
The Beavers paused on the dam as we gathered everyone together and asked many questions about the dam and the buildings below it. A quick closing ceremony in the car pack, a thank you to the parents and everyone left for the short trip home.
Summer Fayre
May 29th 2010
The weather for this years Summer Fayre was not very kind as it alternated between drizzly showers and windy dry periods.
There were fewer stalls outside in the field this year and of those that did arrive some gave up and left around mid-day.
Our stall remained dry all day thanks to the Scouts building a shelter using a large tarpaulin, plenty of rope and two handily placed trees.
Three Beavers who stayed and "helped" all day remained cheerful and smiling right to the end, they really enjoyed a trip around Stithians in a vintage Austin despite being concerned about the lack of seat belts.
Back to topKennal Vale Nature Reserve, Ponsanooth
May 12th 2010
Once again the Beaver Colony enjoyed holding a meeting away from the village hall.
This Beaver meeting was held at Kennal Vale Nature Reserve, which is only 5 minutes away, so it presented an ideal opportunity to get the Beavers outside into the fresh air again.
With so much to explore at Kennal Vale a single visit was barely enough as the Beavers investigated the remains of the old gunpowder works and their associated waterways.
Once again we were in-debted to the parents who came along to ensure safety while the colony clambered over old ruined buildings, along slippery walkways, viewed the flooded quarry and climbed over piles of rock.
Thanks go especially to Ross, who gave up his time to act as our guide to the old workings.
Disco
Disco for all children aged 11 and under.
April 16th 2010
As our posters made clear this was not just a Beavers, Cubs and Scouts event. It was for all children of primary school age or below.
With a professional DJ this event was a huge success, for which we are thankful for all the hard work put in by Vanessa, Stuart and their family.
For just £1.50 which included a bag of sweets and as much squash as you could drink, 54 children of all ages from Stithians and surrounding areas, had a wonderful time.
There were random competitions throughout the evening mixed in with the music.
Even the smoke alarm got in on the fun early on. Fortunately Cath and Charlie came to the rescue. We'll know next time not to use a smoke machine and where you switch it off.
Another one
Due to it's success we may run another Disco. There's also the possibilty of a themed adult disco and perhaps one for the 11 to 16 age group.
Mothering Sunday service
March 14th 2010
The Beavers attended the special Mothering Sunday service held at St Stythians Church, bringing their Mums' along with them.
Shelterbox Haiti appeal
January 27th 2010
Beavers held a fundraising meeting for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
They brought in their pocket money coins, mostly 1p and 2p, then attempted to make a line of coins all around the edge of the main hall.
Achieving the task with their usual enthusiasm and with many coins to spare. When counted they had raised over £100 pounds. A fantastic amount for just 22 Beavers aged 6 and 7 years old to have raised in such a short time and with so little notice.
At the end of the meeting a Bun stall, selling cakes and buns donated by the Beavers parents, increased the total.
All together the Stithians Beavers raised over £130 pounds which was donated to Shelterbox. A total they should all be very proud of.
